NIGERIA: The Coalition of Opposition Political Parties (COPP) has thrown its weight behind former Cross River Governor Ben Ayade, defending his legacy amidst growing calls for accountability and criticism from some quarters.
Pastor Ntami Esege, the South-South Coordinator of the Coalition who disclosed this in Calabar, emphasised that the former governor’s commitment to progress and people-centric governance remains unmatched.
According to him: “COPP extends its sincere commendation to former governor Ben Ayade for his visionary leadership and impactful initiatives in youth empowerment, capacity enhancement, and infrastructure development across Cross River State. His tenure exemplified a commitment to progress and people-centric governance.”
Criticism of Ungrateful Stance
“We note with disappointment the ungrateful stance of certain individuals who, having benefitted from his benevolence, now engage in unwarranted criticism. This about-face underscores a regrettable absence of loyalty and principle, particularly given the former governor’s tireless efforts to uplift and transform the state over eight consequential years.”
“A statesman who prioritised unity and development, Governor Ayade’s legacy includes landmark projects such as the Obudu German Hospital and the Ogoja Rice Mill.”
Call for Context
“We caution against the politics of ingratitude and urge citizens, especially the youths, to contextualise current narratives within the framework of his substantial contributions. We implore all stakeholders to eschew divisive rhetoric and embrace politics grounded in integrity, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to Cross River’s advancement,” he said.
Pastor Esege emphasised that the former governor is a tested material that does not need long advertisement to fulfil the purpose of leadership.
He added that the coalition wants the good people of northern Cross River to support the future political ambition of Senator Ben Ayade.
