Tesla Set Ablaze, Bank Windows Smashed During G7 Protest in Geneva

A Tesla vehicle was set on fire and the windows of a bank were smashed in Geneva on Sunday as protesters demonstrated against the Group of Seven (G7) summit taking place across the border in France.

The protest drew thousands of demonstrators who gathered to voice opposition to what they described as the concentration of political and economic power among the world’s wealthiest nations.

Despite the incidents of vandalism, authorities said the march was largely peaceful. Swiss police estimated that up to 7,000 people participated in the demonstration and reported confiscating several knives and pyrotechnic devices during security operations.

Among those attending the protest was demonstrator Etienne Privat, who condemned the use of violence while emphasizing the broader message behind the rally.

“Violence was somewhat expected, but I think it’s awful to resort to violence over material possessions,” Privat said. “What needs to be understood is the message, the basic message regarding all these countries that oppress us through money and power.”

Protesters said they viewed the G7 summit as a symbol of concentrated global influence, arguing that decisions affecting billions of people are often made by a small group of powerful nations.

The demonstration also reflected growing concerns over wealth inequality. Last week, Tesla owner and technology entrepreneur Elon Musk became the world’s first trillionaire, a milestone that has reignited debate about the widening gap between the ultra-wealthy and ordinary citizens.

The G7 summit brings together leaders from some of the world’s largest advanced economies to discuss global challenges, including economic growth, security, climate policy, and international cooperation. Security measures have been heightened across the region amid expectations of further demonstrations during the summit.
