KEBBI, NIGERIA – Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have dismantled an illegal arms manufacturing facility and arrested two suspected members of a firearms supply syndicate allegedly linked to terrorist activities in Kebbi State.
The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 2 following credible intelligence, according to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
Danja said the troops raided a secluded compound believed to have served as a covert production and distribution centre for locally fabricated firearms used by criminal groups.
During a search of the premises, security operatives recovered five locally manufactured AK-47-style rifles and arrested two suspected arms manufacturers and suppliers believed to be connected to the illegal weapons network.
He said the operation was conducted in collaboration with other security agencies, describing it as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics and dismantle criminal networks operating across the North-West.
“The successful operation represents another major step in the ongoing campaign against the proliferation of illicit weapons, which have continued to fuel insecurity and violent activities in parts of the region,” Danja said.
According to him, the suspects are currently in military custody undergoing preliminary interrogation, while investigations are under way to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate, uncover its sponsors and collaborators, and dismantle the wider illegal arms supply chain.
The Theatre Command commended the professionalism, vigilance, and commitment of the troops and other security agencies involved in the operation.
It also appealed to residents across the North-West to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains essential to sustaining ongoing operations against criminal elements and restoring lasting peace in the region.
