GENEVA — Swiss football club FC Basel has cancelled a planned Kanye West concert, becoming the latest European venue to pull the plug on the US rapper’s performances amid ongoing controversy over his past antisemitic comments.
FC Basel, which manages concerts and events at its St. Jakob-Park stadium, said it made the decision after a thorough review of the request.
“FCB received an enquiry and considered it. However, after thorough review, we have decided not to proceed with the project, as we cannot, in accordance with our values, provide a platform for the artist in question within this context,” a club spokesperson told Reuters.
Swiss media reported that the concert had been scheduled for June.
A String of Setbacks
The cancellation adds to a string of setbacks for West, now known as Ye. On Friday, a Polish stadium announced it would cancel his planned June 19 show in Chorzów due to “formal and legal reasons.”
Days earlier, West postponed a concert in Marseille, France, while Britain had already blocked him from entering the country to headline a major festival.
Public Apology
In January 2026, the rapper issued a public apology for his past behaviour, which he attributed to untreated bipolar disorder. He renounced previous expressions of admiration for Adolf Hitler and stated he is “not a Nazi or an antisemite.”
Despite the apology, European venues continue to distance themselves from the artist, citing their values and concerns over providing a platform for someone with his controversial history.
