NIGERIA – Popular Nigerian relationship therapist and social media influencer Blessing CEO has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged ₦36 million fraud case in Lagos.

According to reports, Blessing CEO, whose real name is Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, was arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on charges bordering on obtaining money by false pretences and stealing.

The anti-graft agency accused the influencer of collecting ₦36 million from a petitioner on the pretence that the money was for the purchase of a six-bedroom duplex in the Lekki area of Lagos State. Prosecutors told the court that the representation was false and misleading.

Court proceedings revealed that the transaction took place in July 2024. During the hearing, EFCC counsel urged the court to proceed with the case, arguing that it remained a criminal matter irrespective of any ongoing settlement discussions between the parties.

Counsel to Blessing CEO, however, informed the court that efforts had been made towards repayment. The defence stated that approximately ₦24 million had already been refunded to the complainant, with discussions continuing regarding the outstanding balance.

Despite the defence’s submissions, the court ruled that the matter should proceed. Justice D.I. Dipeolu adjourned the case for further hearing and reportedly ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody pending the fulfilment of her bail conditions.

The development has sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. While some Nigerians called for the matter to be allowed to follow due legal process without public interference, others referenced Blessing CEO’s history of controversial statements and public disputes.

Blessing CEO rose to prominence through her relationship advice, celebrity commentary, and viral online content. She has built a large social media following over the years but has also attracted criticism for her outspoken opinions and unconventional views on relationships and modern dating culture.

As of the time of this report, Blessing CEO has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The EFCC has maintained that the prosecution and investigations will continue in accordance with the law.
