Tension gripped Umuadara community in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State on Thursday, May 22, after a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, was reportedly murdered in her apartment under horrifying circumstances. The victim, identified as Wendy Achumba from Ngwa in Abia State, was allegedly attacked and killed inside her residence located in the Umuadara area, where she lived while pursuing her studies.
Residents said the tragic incident was discovered in the early hours of Thursday when neighbours noticed unusual silence around her apartment and later found her lifeless body in a pool of blood. Her body reportedly showed severe signs of violence, sending shockwaves across the quiet student community. The incident immediately drew large crowds of residents, students, and youths to the scene as fear and anger spread throughout the area.
Wendy was said to have completed her Midwifery programme and had recently continued her Post Basic studies at the institution. Friends and neighbours described her as calm, hardworking, and deeply committed to her education. Many residents expressed disbelief that such a brutal incident could happen to someone widely regarded as peaceful and focused.
According to eyewitnesses, cries and confusion filled the area after the discovery was made. Community youths reportedly demanded immediate action from security agencies, insisting that those responsible for the killing must be identified and brought to justice without delay. The atmosphere became increasingly tense as angry residents gathered around the apartment and questioned the safety of students living in the community.
Security operatives later arrived at the scene to restore calm and begin preliminary investigations. Police officers were said to have faced emotional confrontations from residents who accused authorities of not doing enough to protect lives in the area. The body of the deceased was later evacuated as investigations commenced.
