Kaduna Catholic Church Raises Alarm as Gunmen Kill 9, Kidnap 25 in Kagarko Communities

The Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna has raised fresh alarm over renewed terrorist attacks on communities under the pastoral care of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Kurmin Dangana District in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where no fewer than nine persons have been killed and 25 others abducted in separate attacks within the last three months.

The Archdiocese disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Archdiocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Christian Okewu Emmanuel.

According to the statement, the latest attack occurred on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Kurmin Bongo outstation, where heavily armed terrorists stormed the community between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. amid a heavy downpour.

The church said that despite spirited resistance by local vigilante groups, the attackers overpowered the community, killing five persons and abducting ten others during the raid.

It added that two of the abducted victims were later rescued through efforts by the vigilantes.

The Archdiocese further disclosed that earlier attacks had also taken place at Kasaru-B outstation on March 2 and Sabon Gari outstation on May 1, leaving several residents dead, injured, and kidnapped.

“During the Kasaru-B attack, one person was shot dead while another sustained multiple gunshot injuries. Eight persons, including the Mai Wa’azi, were abducted by the terrorists. Although some of the victims later regained freedom, two abductees were killed in captivity,” the statement said.

It added that the attack on Sabon Gari came barely two weeks after victims abducted from Kasaru-B regained freedom.

“Two persons sustained gunshot injuries during the invasion while ten others were abducted. One of the victims was later killed in captivity,” the church stated.

The Archdiocese condemned what it described as incessant and coordinated attacks on vulnerable rural communities and called on the government as well as security agencies to intensify efforts towards protecting lives and property across the affected areas.

“The repeated attacks have displaced affected persons and thrown the communities into untold sorrow, fear and uncertainty,” the statement added.
