The Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka William, has passed away, throwing the state’s political and public service community into deep mourning.
William reportedly died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
His brother, Nkang William, announced the death on Sunday, describing it as sudden and hard to accept. In a heartfelt tribute, Nkang expressed disbelief that William, who had recently spent time with the family, was gone.
“I am struggling to believe that I am writing these words about you, my beloved brother, Dr Eka Williams Abang. How can someone who was here with us suddenly become a memory?” he wrote.
He remembered the deceased as more than a brother—a companion and a vital part of the family whose passing had left a void beyond words. Nkang said that despite the pain, the family would continue to honour William’s life, the people he touched, the knowledge he shared, and the relationships he built.
Colleagues Express Shock
The commissioner’s sudden death has stunned friends, associates, and colleagues, especially those who had seen him just days earlier.
Michael Gabriel Jr., Executive Media Assistant to Senator John Owan-Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, described William as “a dedicated public servant and a good man.”
“Ikom LGA has lost a dedicated public servant and a good man. Prince Eka William’s life of service, humility, and impact will remain in the hearts of those he touched,” Gabriel said.
He prayed that God would give the deceased’s family, colleagues, and loved ones the strength to bear the loss, and grant his soul eternal rest.
