Martin Beck Nworah Criticises Charismatic Bishops Conference Over Confusion and Leadership

Social Media personality Martin Beck Nworah has criticised the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, questioning its similarities with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) and accusing its founders of creating confusion among the public.

Nworah, in a statement shared on social media, noted that the CBCN had existed since the 1950s, while the Charismatic Bishops Conference was established only a few years ago. He questioned the rationale behind the establishment of the newer organisation, alleging that its creation was intended to confuse the public.

“Whoever set up the latter knew exactly what he was doing to confuse the public,” Nworah said.

Commenting on photographs of representatives of both groups during visits to President Bola Tinubu, Nworah drew attention to differences in their appearance and presentation. He argued that Catholic bishops do not typically wear full liturgical regalia outside church duties, noting that different forms of attire are used for different occasions. However, he criticised what he described as the Charismatic group’s effort to display its identity and visibility during the visit.

Nworah also questioned the leadership structure of the Charismatic Bishops Conference, claiming that it had retained the same president-general since its inception.

“The charismatic group has had one president general of their association from inception until now. They have never changed,” he said, questioning whether the organisation was being run as an individual’s personal property.

He further referred to an alleged appeal to President Tinubu for a political appointment, adding: “It is not a life that these bishops are living in Nigeria.”

Nworah’s comments come amid public discussions over the identities and representation of Christian religious groups engaging with political leaders.
