Suspected bandits have killed two persons and abducted eleven others in Malamawar Yari village, Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The gunmen, who attacked the village at about 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday, have left residents in fear and anxiety.
Those kidnapped include eight women and three men, among them a small child. It was gathered that the attackers killed one person and abducted seven members of a single family. They also abducted two women each from two separate houses.
The victims who were killed have been identified as Abubakar Buntu and Abubakar Bello.
Eyewitness Account
According to a local source in the village, the attackers stormed the community through the eastern flank, shooting sporadically, which forced residents to flee for their lives.
“They came into our village through a path linking us with Rabah Local Government Area. On arrival, they started shooting sporadically, killed two persons, injured two others, and abducted eleven,” the eyewitness said.
The two persons who sustained gunshot injuries are currently receiving medical treatment. One was taken to a health facility in Sokoto, while the other was treated at home. One of the victims was shot in the hand, while the other sustained injuries to the leg.
Security Concerns
The source noted that the village has an estimated population of about 5,000 residents but lamented the lack of adequate security presence, attributing it to the recurring attacks.
“We need more security operatives. They only access our village through one road and usually come through a nearby forest in Rabah. If security personnel are properly deployed, they can be stopped,” he added.
Police Confirmation
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, confirmed the incident.
“I heard about the killings, but I do not have the exact number of those kidnapped yet. I only received a sketchy report,” he said.
Rufai added that he would contact the Divisional Police Officer in Kware LGA for more details but had yet to get back to our reporter as of the time of filing this report.
