KADUNA — The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of violating a court order by denying him access to his personal doctor while in detention.
This was made known in a statement issued by Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency. The family alleged that officials of the anti-graft agency prevented El-Rufai’s doctor from seeing him despite an existing court order granting him unrestricted medical access.
According to the statement, the doctor visited the ICPC headquarters at about 3 p.m. to discuss the outcome of medical tests recently conducted on the former governor, but was turned back by officials who insisted that written approval from the ICPC Chairman was required before access could be granted.
The family described the action as a direct violation of the court order and an infringement on El-Rufai’s constitutional rights.
The statement further alleged that El-Rufai’s wife, Aichatou, was also denied access when she attempted to deliver his evening meal around 7 p.m.
According to the family, ICPC personnel informed her that food deliveries were not allowed after 6:30 p.m., a development they described as arbitrary and unjustifiable.
“The arbitrary rule is no less offensive than blocking his right to medical care,” the statement said.
The family maintained that no lawful detention permits the denial of medical attention or family support, insisting that the actions of the agency amount to “an outright assault on the rule of law.”
They accused the ICPC of engaging in intimidation under the guise of administrative procedures and demanded that all constitutional rights of the former governor be fully respected.
“We will no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol. The ICPC must abide by the very laws it claims to enforce,” the statement added.
