NIGERIA: The Kaduna State Police Command has clarified reports of an alleged explosion in Kaduna, stating that the incident at Mando Motor Park in the early hours of Sunday was not a bomb blast but a minor gas-related explosion involving a commercial vehicle.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the Command said the incident occurred on April 5, 2026, when a loud sound was reported at the premises of Silver Luxury Travel, a transport company operating at Mando Garage in Kaduna.
According to the statement, upon receiving the distress call, police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosion involved a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered luxury bus belonging to the company, and not an improvised explosive device as initially speculated in some quarters.
The Command further disclosed that the incident was caused by the overfilling of the vehicle’s gas tank, which triggered a minor explosion within the system.
Police authorities confirmed that the affected vehicle has since been safely evacuated from the scene, while the surrounding area was promptly secured to prevent any secondary risks.
Fortunately, no casualties or damage to other property were recorded, and normal commercial and human activities have since resumed in the area without disruption.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Muhammad Rabiu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to prevent a recurrence.
The Police Bomb Disposal Unit has also been deployed as part of standard safety protocol.
The Command urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, especially on sensitive security matters, emphasizing that misinformation could trigger unnecessary fear and panic among residents.
