LYON, France — Thousands of people marched in the French city of Lyon on Saturday following the killing of far-right activist Quentin Deranque, who was beaten to death last week by alleged hard-left activists in an incident that has shocked the nation.

[16:30]: Approximately 3,200 people are participating in the Lyon march, according to local authorities. Protesters chant “justice for Quentin” and “antifa assassin,” with many wearing surgical masks and sunglasses to conceal their identities.

[16:15]: French President Emmanuel Macron called for calm earlier Saturday and announced he will hold a meeting with ministers on all violent groups next week.

[16:00]: Seven people are under formal investigation for their alleged role in Deranque’s murder, including a former aide to a lawmaker for the hard-left France Unbowed (LFI) party, which has condemned the killing.
