A 35-year-old man, Malime Ejor, has been accused of killing his 26-year-old girlfriend, Moshie Igu, over alleged infidelity in Nwang Village, Ekajuk community, Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m., at a farm in the village.
According to a resident who pleaded anonymity, a heated argument broke out between the couple over accusations of extramarital affairs. The disagreement quickly escalated into violence, with Ejor allegedly attacking Igu with a machete, resulting in her death.
“We heard the commotion and noise and rushed to the scene, but we were unable to prevent the situation because he was already using a machete on her,” the resident said.
He added: “We could not do anything. We were able to hold him. Our youths caught him and later handed him over to security operatives.”
Police Confirmation
Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesperson for the Cross River State Police Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the suspect is now in custody and a full investigation has commenced.
“The suspect is currently in custody, and a full investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Eitokpah stated.
He explained that upon receipt of the report, police operatives promptly visited the scene. The suspect was rescued from an attempted mob action by angry youths and is being held in police custody for his safety while investigations continue.
The case is being prepared for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and thorough investigation.
Victim’s Remains
The victim’s remains have been evacuated to the General Hospital Mortuary, Ogoja, for autopsy and medical examination, the police spokesperson added.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents of the community, who are demanding swift justice.
