Sunday, July 26, 2026 – Massive wildfires have left over 100 homes in ashes across southwest France, with the town of Le Porge bearing the brunt of the devastation as firefighters continue to battle blazes threatening the city of Bordeaux.
Drone footage taken on Sunday shows the aftermath of the wildfires in Le Porge, where houses in the path of the blaze were evacuated by their residents.
More than 100 homes in Le Porge were destroyed or damaged by the fire, its municipal councillor said on Saturday, July 25.
Le Porge, a sea-facing town of 3,500 inhabitants located north of the popular holiday spot Cap Ferret, now resembles a wasteland. Some houses were reduced to rubble, others that were left standing had scorched walls. Grey debris replaced lush greenery. Swimming pools, usually a sign of summer fun, lay stagnant.
Firefighters battled to control wildfires threatening the French city of Bordeaux on Sunday, while authorities evacuated increasing numbers of people from its suburbs.
The southwestern French region has been hit by wildfires during an intense summer heatwave that has gripped many parts of Europe.
The Bordeaux region is famed for its vineyards, and the city is one of the main transport hubs for tourists visiting nearby holiday resorts on the Atlantic coast.
Authorities have evacuated 220,000 people from southwestern France so far after wildfires broke out earlier this week and reached Cap Ferret.
