Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will miss the remainder of the Premier League season after suffering a hamstring injury during the Reds’ 3–1 victory over Crystal Palace, Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan confirmed on Saturday.
Hassan told Reuters that the 33-year-old has sustained a hamstring tear and will undergo four weeks of treatment, effectively ending his campaign. Liverpool have yet to issue an official medical update, but the news means Salah has likely played his final game for the club, as his nine-year spell at Anfield draws to a close.
After joining from Roma in 2017, Salah became a defining figure of the Jürgen Klopp era, helping Liverpool to the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. The Egyptian winger leaves as the club’s third-highest all-time goalscorer, registering 12 goals and nine assists across all competitions this season despite injury interruptions.
Salah is expected to bid farewell to fans following Liverpool’s final home match against Brentford on May 24, though he will now watch from the sidelines as the Reds close out fixtures against Manchester United, Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Brentford.
Hassan reassured Egyptian fans that Salah will be fit in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Egypt will compete in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran.
Salah’s recovery will be closely monitored, given his past injury struggles ahead of major tournaments. He famously suffered a shoulder injury in the 2018 Champions League final against Real Madrid, limiting his impact at the World Cup in Russia, where Egypt exited in the group stage despite two goals from their star forward.
With Salah’s focus now on regaining full fitness, Egypt will hope their captain can lead a deep run in the 2026 tournament — and perhaps deliver the World Cup breakthrough that has eluded one of Africa’s greatest ever players.
