BEIJING — A deadly magnitude 5.2 earthquake has struck southwest China’s Guangxi region, killing two people and forcing over 7,000 residents to evacuate as buildings collapsed in the early hours of Monday.
The earthquake, which hit the city of Liuzhou, left one person missing and sent four others to hospital, though none had life-threatening injuries, state media CCTV and Xinhua reported.
Thirteen buildings collapsed during the quake, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
More than 7,000 people were evacuated as search and rescue operations continue. Railway authorities flagged transportation disruptions as they inspected the integrity of rail line infrastructure.
Communication and power lines, water and gas supply, and traffic in the affected area were operating normally, state media reported.
