Two prominent Nigerian political figures, Peter Obi and Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, are expected to formally join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday in Abuja, in a move that could reshape alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The planned defection, despite earlier denials, was disclosed in an invitation circulated to journalists via the party’s media WhatsApp platform.
According to the invite, the event is scheduled to take place at 2:00 p.m. in Abuja, where both politicians are set to be officially received into the party.
They will be welcomed by the NDC’s National Leader, Henry Seriake Dickson, alongside the party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
The move is widely seen as a strategic step that could influence the political landscape ahead of the next general election cycle, with both leaders regarded as key contenders in national politics.
Party officials are expected to outline the significance of the development during the event.
