ASABA, Delta State — Former Deputy President of the 9th Senate and Delta Central senatorial candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has raised the alarm over what he described as “disturbing and increasingly credible threats” to his life and those of his family members.
In a statement issued as he commenced his campaign activities in Delta State, Omo-Agege said the alleged threats were emanating from the Delta State Government House in Asaba.
The former senator said his campaign would begin in Uvwie Local Government Area before proceeding to the other seven local government areas within the senatorial district.
Omo-Agege called on the Nigerian public, international community, civil-society organisations, media organisations and security agencies to take formal notice of the alleged threats.
He further stated that should anything happen to him or any member of his family, the Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, should be held responsible and accountable.
“Should anything untoward happen to me or members of my family, the Nigerian people and more particularly the Urhobo people of Delta Central Senatorial District should hold the Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, responsible and accountable,” Omo-Agege said.
He urged relevant security agencies to take the allegation seriously and ensure adequate protection for him and his family as the campaign progresses.
Omo-Agege, who served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, is contesting for the Delta Central senatorial seat.
