ARIS, France — Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, has called for stronger international partnerships, accountable leadership and increased investment in productive sectors to drive Nigeria’s economic growth and sustainable development.
Obi made the remarks following his participation in a roundtable discussion at the Paris office of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), where policymakers, diplomats, development experts, international organisations and media representatives discussed Nigeria’s future and its role in the global community.
According to Obi, the discussions focused on development cooperation and strengthening bilateral partnerships to accelerate economic growth, improve living standards and create productive opportunities for Nigerians.
He maintained that Nigeria possesses the human and natural resources necessary to become a secure, prosperous and globally competitive nation, arguing that realising this potential requires leadership that prioritises education, healthcare, productive enterprise, the rule of law and strong institutions.
Obi also called for a shift from what he described as a “politics of consumption” towards an economy driven by production, investment and shared prosperity.
He emphasised the importance of good governance, fiscal responsibility and mutually beneficial international partnerships in building an economy that serves the interests of Nigerians.
“Nigeria’s future is bright, but realising its promise requires deliberate choices,” Obi stated, reiterating his belief that the country can overcome its development challenges through effective leadership and sustained institutional reforms. He concluded with his familiar political slogan: A New Nigeria is POssible.
