A LEGO set inspired by the upcoming film Project Hail Mary has secured a Guinness World Records title after being launched into the stratosphere and safely returned to Earth.
The miniature model reached an altitude of 114,790 feet (34,988 metres), setting a new record for the highest launch and retrieval of a LEGO set, Guinness confirmed on Tuesday.
The mission, organised by Sony Pictures Releasing UK in partnership with aerospace firm Sent Into Space, saw the payload lifted by a high-altitude balloon from Gwynedd County, UK, on March 20.
The set featured minifigures of key characters, including astronaut Ryland Grace and the alien Rocky, from the science fiction story. It travelled to nearly 35 kilometres above Earth before descending and being recovered intact, fulfilling the criteria required for the record.
An official certificate was presented to the film’s directors and producers at a ceremony in Las Vegas on April 13, marking the achievement as both a promotional milestone and a technical feat.
