CALABAR, NIGERIA — An association of communities in Ogoja Local Government Area, Cross River State, the Liluom ê Mbe, has drawn attention to ongoing illegal activities such as illegal logging in their communities, saying they have negatively impacted them in many ways.

President General of Liluom ê Mbe, Prof. Tony Eyang, disclosed this when they celebrated the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Peter Odey, at a public rally in Ogoja, where they assured him, the state governor, and President Bola Tinubu of their electoral votes for a second term next year.

Eyang called for government action to curb the illegal activity which is devastating their communities and the local economy.

He said the dilapidated state of public schools has become worrisome and the need for refurbishment is very pressing. He also called for the establishment of a polytechnic to cater for the growing number of students from the area.

Commending the deputy governor for his active role in supporting his principal and attracting infrastructure to their areas, the Liluom ê Mbe also called for the reconnection of Mbube to the national grid.

The association lamented that their people have been left in darkness for too long as a result of lack of public electricity supply.

Eyang reaffirmed the unity and political progress of the Mbube Nation, describing the emergence of their son, Peter Odey, as Deputy Governor in 2023 as a historic milestone for the people.

He commended Governor Bassey Otu for his commitment to Mbube, recalling his visit to the community shortly after assuming office and the ongoing rehabilitation of the Mbube-Ogoja Road. He also appreciated the inclusion of Mbube indigenes in key positions within the state government.

Responding on behalf of the President, Governor, and Deputy Governor, Chief Peter Ojie lauded the organisers and the people of Mbube for their show of love, solidarity, and support for their son, the deputy governor.

He commended Governor Otu’s administration for its extensive infrastructure drive across the state, particularly in Mbube. He noted that the administration has given Mbube a pride of place in its development agenda, assuring the people of its commitment to completing ongoing projects in the area.

Chief Ojie further urged the people to remain steadfast in their support for Governor Otu, his deputy, and President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that the President has taken steps to stabilise the national economy, tackle insecurity, and advance critical infrastructure development across the country.
